BANCOMAT and Visa Announce Pilot Project to Extend BANCOMAT Pay Functionality

Milan, 1 December 2025 — BANCOMAT, a leading brand in the Italian payments landscape, is launching a pilot project with Visa, a global leader in digital payments, to extend the operability of the BANCOMAT wallet through Visa’s global acceptance network. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the evolution of Italy’s payment ecosystem, combining the strength of BANCOMAT’s domestic infrastructure with Visa’s international reach and technological capabilities. The new feature will allow users of BANCOMAT Pay — integrated within the BANCOMAT wallet — to make secure, contactless payments abroad. The solution’s testing phase is scheduled for early 2026.
A Market in Transformation

Digital payments in Italy continue to grow at a rapid pace. According to the Innovative Payments Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, in 2024 digital payments overtook cash for the first time in total transaction value, with an 8.5% year-on-year increase. BANCOMAT — used by millions of Italians and supported by more than 400 partners — remains a cornerstone of the country’s payment infrastructure.

The collaboration with Visa fits into this dynamic context, aiming to expand operational possibilities for banks and users while strengthening Italy’s role in the digital payments landscape.
