Digital payments, Dalla Sega: “Collaboration among system stakeholders is essential”

On the occasion of the event “Investiamo insieme sul presente e sul futuro dell’Italia”, organised by Remind and held yesterday in Rome, Bancomat Chairman Franco Dalla Sega addressed the topic of digital payments and the role of Europe in building a more integrated economic system.

“The European Union is now facing a crossroads: either accelerate the construction of a truly integrated economic system in every respect, or accept growing dependence on non-EU players. In this context, payments represent a fundamental chapter.”

In his speech, the Chairman highlighted the strategic value of the recent Memorandum of Understanding aimed at building an interoperable European ecosystem for digital payments.

“The recent MoU for the creation of an interoperable European ecosystem for digital payments – to which Bancomat has actively contributed and which involves 72% of the EU population, in addition to Norway – represents a result of significant strategic importance.”

Dalla Sega also stressed the importance of coordination among the stakeholders involved:

“It is now essential to launch a structured path of collaboration with both public and private system stakeholders, with the aim of sharing a common vision and a strategic interest that is decisive for the country’s economic system. Effective coordination is crucial to ensure consistency, impact and the full enhancement of domestic initiatives in light of European developments such as those outlined in the latest MoU. In this scenario, it is important to foster – also through appropriate institutional support – a market evolution that makes co-badging an increasingly natural and widespread choice.”

The speech is part of a broader path aimed at strengthening cooperation between public and private operators, at a crucial time for the evolution of the digital payments market in Europe.
