BANCOMAT guida la Community Session su EUDI Wallet e Identità digitale
More than 130 representatives from the financial and digital sectors came together to explore the opportunities offered by the EUDI Wallet and promote a shared path towards its adoption in Italy.
Rome, 19 October 2026 – BANCOMAT today brought together more than 130 representatives from banks, financial institutions and Italy’s digital ecosystem for the first online BANCOMAT Community Session dedicated to the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet).
The initiative reinforces BANCOMAT’s ongoing research and experimentation within the APTITUDE Consortium and its registration as an Intermediary in the pilot programme with the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), supporting the Italian financial system in moving towards the adoption of the new digital infrastructures envisaged under the European regulatory framework.
During the session, participants shared development results and explored use cases of particular relevance to the sector. These included access to digital services, customer identification, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), verifiable credential management and transaction authorisation through home banking channels.
The discussion highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to support the Italian financial system’s adoption of the EUDI Wallet and reduce fragmentation. BANCOMAT is promoting the establishment of a working group to develop a future Italian EUDIW Scheme, bringing together banks and financial intermediaries, as well as technology providers and industry players interested in contributing to the development of European digital identity in Italy.
With this in mind, BANCOMAT also intends to make its infrastructure and financial settlement capabilities available to connect Relying Parties with credential Issuers, supporting the implementation of a potential revenue model.
The project reinforces BANCOMAT’s identity as a unifying force across the financial ecosystem, reducing implementation times and costs while strengthening its role as an enabler of future innovation.
By December 2027, the eIDAS 2.0 Regulation will require entities subject to strong authentication requirements to accept the EUDI Wallet as a means of remotely identifying and authenticating their customers, opening a new chapter in the evolution of European digital services.
