ABI together with the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired ETS-APS and BANCOMAT

Rome, November 4, 2024 - ABI has issued a circular to Associates in which it presents the experimental project promoted by ABI itself and the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired ETS-APS (U.I.C.I.), in collaboration with BANCOMAT S.p.A., to allow people with visual disabilities to use touch screen POS autonomously and safely.

Among the specific requirements of POS, useful for facilitating payment by the blind and visually impaired, the following have been identified in particular:

• the activation of payment through a special dedicated function;
• the management of messages addressed to the customer (e.g. choice of circuit, confirmation of the amount entered by the merchant, entering the PIN code) through a voice guide;
• the management of entering the PIN code through sound supports;
• the specific positioning of the keyboard;
• the appropriate screen contrast.

Compliance with the indicated requirements is mandatory for those who intend to approve their touch POS (so-called touch-screen) solutions within the circuits managed by BANCOMAT S.p.A.
