Interbank fees, what you need to know

What are Interbank Fees?

Interbank fees are the amounts exchanged between payment service providers—issuers and acquirers—that participate in a payment network.

What is the flow of Interbank Fees?

For a payment transaction, the interbank fee is paid by the acquirer to the issuer, while for a withdrawal transaction, the interbank fee is paid by the issuer to the acquirer.

When are Interbank Fees exchanged?

Interbank Fees are exchanged when a withdrawal or payment is made across institutions, meaning when the ATM and/or POS are operated by a bank or institution different from the one that issued the card.
