BANCOMAT participates in the Europe Day celebrations

Rome, 9 May 2025 — On the occasion of Europe Day, BANCOMAT, together with Bizum (Spain and Andorra), Blik (Poland), Blink by BORICA (Bulgaria), MB WAY/ SIBS (Portugal), and Vipps (Denmark, Finland and Norway), joins the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, reaffirming its commitment to a shared European project also in the field of digital payments.

That declaration, signed on May 9, 1950, affirmed a principle that still guides collaboration between European countries today: “Europe will not be done all at once, nor in an overall construction: it will arise from concrete achievements that create first of all a de facto solidarity.” A message that finds new relevance in the construction of a common infrastructure in payments, the result of a concrete commitment on the part of European actors.

Europe, the European Payments Alliance, was created to promote an interoperable and pan-European payment system, based on European standards, trust in local brands and collaboration between private operators. The initiative represents a concrete step towards greater strategic autonomy and technological independence in the digital payments sector, in line with the objectives of the European Union and the Eurosystem.

ATM, which has always been the protagonist of the evolution of payments in Italy, actively collaborates with other partner solutions to build a common experience that allows European citizens to send and receive money in real time, even across national borders, with the same simplicity, speed and security that they are already used to.

To date, Europa connects more than 50 million users and more than 180 financial institutions, contributing to the creation of an interoperable, reliable and constantly expanding instant payment ecosystem. In 2024 alone, the six signatory solutions generated more than 2 billion transactions, representing the majority share of instant transfers made in the respective countries.

The alliance aims to gradually extend to other European markets, with the aim of making the payment experience increasingly simple and integrated for citizens, businesses and merchants across the continent. A further step in the construction of a digital, concrete and collaborative Europe.
