Rome, 22 July 2025 - BANCOMAT S.p.A., leader in payment services in Italy, finalizes the closing for the acquisition of Flowpay, an Italian fintech specialized in open banking and digital payment solutions. The integration between the two realities opens up new technological scenarios, strengthening the ability to face with vision and concreteness the challenges of a rapidly evolving market, for the benefit of businesses, consumers and partners.
A strategic transaction, therefore, already announced last February and which has now also received final approval from the Bank of Italy. A targeted acquisition that is part of the new BANCOMAT Business Plan, defined in collaboration with FSI, with the aim of constantly overseeing the open banking market. In fact, BANCOMAT aims to accelerate the development of innovative technologies and digital solutions designed for the new needs of merchants, consumers and banks participating in the national circuit.
With the operational extension obtained by FlowPay, BANCOMAT will be able to activate important value-added services both on the physical and online channels, allowing participating banks to enhance collection and payment services for consumers and merchants, such as withdrawals and payments abroad and in-app tokenization.
There are numerous projects on which the two companies will be able to insist, building an increasingly efficient, secure and future-oriented digital payment system. In this new structure, FlowPay becomes the fulcrum of technological and regulatory expertise, while BANCOMAT confirms itself as the strategic enabler, capable of transforming ideas into concrete solutions, bringing them with force to institutional and market tables.
Fabrizio Burlando, CEO of BANCOMAT S.p.A., declares: “The entry of FlowPay into the BANCOMAT perimeter represents a crucial step in our evolutionary path. This transaction allows us to acquire strategic leverage to face the transformations taking place in digital payments more quickly and competently. It is an investment in the future of the Italian system and in our country's ability to drive innovation with solid, open and reliable infrastructures.”
Federico Masi, CEO & Co-founder of FlowPay, underlines the importance of the transaction: “We are thrilled to embark on this new path with BANCOMAT, which represents a significant turning point for FlowPay. An opportunity to strengthen our impact on the market, creating new standards in digital collection and payment systems, to be brought to the service of current partners and all those who will come.”
Acceleration and expansion are the keywords that summarize this union: acceleration in the development of new use cases and in the adoption of open banking technologies, expansion of innovation opportunities for the entire payment ecosystem, from businesses to consumers.
The closing of the agreement confirms the vision shared by BANCOMAT and FlowPay in the evolution of the payment landscape in Italy and Europe, laying the foundations for new technological and commercial synergies.
